Construction is progressing on the new Manatee Lagoon – an FPL Eco-Discovery Center in Riviera Beach.
Crews hoisted its cupola to the roof of the 16,000-square-foot center.
The center aims to inform visitors and residents about manatees and the ecosystems they inhabit.
It is slated to open in February 2016.
The center will offer two levels of exhibit and meeting space, a boardwalk to observe manatees in the Lake Worth Lagoon, picnic areas and a pavilion, according to a press release. Admission will be free.
FPL says the warm-water outflow from the adjacent FPL Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center can attract hundreds of endangered manatees each year during the cold winter months.
